Maverick County VITA Coalition training was held at Seco Mines Community Center Technology Lab

Maverick County Precinct 3   Income Tax season is just around the corner and Maverick County is preparing for it's yearly vita program. The Maverick County VITA Coalition in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service(IRS) was formed to help prepare free federal income tax returns for low to moderate
income families in Maverick County. Volunteers from local agencies including Boys and Girls Club, Maverick County Precincts one, two, and three were present today at the Seco Mines Community Center Technology Lab in which a training was given to them by IRS Agent Jose Carrizales. These individuals volunteering will not only have the knowledge to assist you but will also be certified by the IRS to prepare your income tax returns. VITA Chair Martha A. Solis stated that she is very excited with the program this year and is very pleased with the outcome of volunteers participating. The VITA program with help of local agencies and volunteers in FY2011 have helped prepare 975 income tax returns and brought in an amazing $1.8 million dollars in total refunds to the Eagle Pass Community. The Coalition also saved Maverick County taxpayers over $200,000 in tax preparation fees. Commissioner Rosales stated that these types of low income assistance programs are a perfect example of how working together we can make a positive impact on our community and at the same time introduce benefits that will help these families in need, bringing revenue back into our community. Mr. Rosales is prepared for another tax season ahead and encourages those of you willing to volunteer your time in helping the community to please give us a call 757-6128, 773-5588 or visit the coalition website at www.maverickcountyvita.com for more information on how you can participate.
